Bayonetta is one of the best Japanese action games to come out on the xbox 360. It has an amazing combo system that is simple but requires good timing and skill as the game progresses. The stunning visuals on the xbox will make one feel like their eyes are being dipped in chocolate and exploding at the same time (in a good way). The basic premise is that there is a witch with amnesia and god-like powers. Her outfit is very revealing, especially when she does climax moves (yes they are actually called "climax" moves) where it vanishes into another dimension and comes back as a giant monster ready to tear up her foes in a bloody euphoria. This is because her outfit is made of her hair, and her hair has magical abilities. It sounds complicated, but the average player will become too overcome with awesomeness to try and figure it out. The game is loaded with weapons, from snake whips and death bringing ice skates to shotguns and rocket-launchers. All of this makes it one of the best xbox 360 games. Some may disagree with the way that Bayonetta is displayed in the game (probably just Moms and feminists), but many gamers, including women, see the game as unafraid of flaunting how amazing the female body is, and very pro-feminine. There are not many bloody action games where the main character is female and incredibly strong. Male and female gamers cheer for Bayonetta as they play, and accept her as a strong hero. Her personality is fun and she is given the same kind of “coolness” that Samuel L. Jackson got in Pulp Fiction. There are many suggestive poses that Bayonetta takes in the game, but they are just meant to be play-full and often humorous. If a gamer does just get the game because this woman is often in racy positions that go along with her outfit, they may come to realize that it is actually a very fun game, and Bayonetta is a very intriguing character. As the edgy parts of the game seem to be all that are known about it from people who have not played Bayonetta, there are reasons why they are in the game (they aren’t in there just to be edgy). The designer uses Bayonetta as a catalyst, to show us our own perceptions of the female body in media. Many people take exposure to it (in the media) way to seriously, and seem to be repelled by it. At the same time we seem to also be repelled by female protagonists. The designer of Bayonetta shows us that both are nothing to be scared of, and takes a new step in the world of video games (possibly story telling). The game shows us that females are something to be celebrated, and we do not need to be afraid of seeing their bodies. Just because a woman exposes parts of her body doesn’t lessen her weight in the world. She can still be a hero and can still be intelligent.
