"It’s been a lot of grant writing process, which led me to understand the specifications of the non-profit sector of business strategy, and awareness, and efficiency," said Vogel.

"I think business is not entirely a non-profit sector, and I wanted to bring the two areas together, so that made me think of an MBA."

Vogel is now a student at Oxford Said, one of a growing number of schools with an emphasis on "social and commercial aspects for people who want to start and strengthen social and environmental projects.

Even business schools that do not offer the focus integrated into their standard MBA program.

The last survey Beyond Grey stripes, now 69 percent of the 149 companies participating schools, students must take a course dedicated to business issues and society. This includes topics such as non-profit, social responsibility (CSR) and social entrepreneurship. This may seem synonymous, at first glance, but what exactly disentangle these three concepts mean, this is far from simple.

Perhaps the simplest is to define the term "nonprofit" and its most obvious application is for those considering a career in an NGO or public sector and government. But in a market increasingly flexible and international understanding of this area can be a great advantage for all MBA students.

"Imagine trying to work in China without understanding the role of government," says Nora Silver, professor of nonprofit management and public at Berkeley Haas School of Business.

"We are preparing students so that regardless of where they work, you can work with people in other fields, and made their knowledge and experience to take jobs in different sectors."

Social entrepreneurship is a larger area, would benefit from the profit impact for positive change. Pamela Hartigan Director of the Oxford Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, describing it as "entrepreneurial spirit, combining innovation, resourcefulness and ability to create new systems or practices - or improve them there. That instead of focusing only on profits, have focused on social change in a positive way”

Hartigan, many students have experience in project management for charitable or non-profit organizations, while others come from a traditional business.
