In the book of proverbs 31 we come across what is known as the virtuous woman. This is a famous example of genuine biblical womanhood. At first the chapter starts off in a out of the ordinary way. It begins by speaking about drinking. The reason it does is more or less as if it wanted to demonstrate what a woman is like if she is not this proverbs 31 woman. After we get past the first ten verses of proverbs 31 we at last get to the part about the virtuous woman. The very first thing we find out about her is that she is hard to come by. The reality that she is described as being so high of value that she passes the value of rubies is a decent indication of how tough it is to stumble on a woman like this. It may have been hard in those days to discover such a woman but in our day it is even harder to find the proverbs 31 woman. Things are much different now than they used to be. Women are no longer taking custody of their homes. They have begun to take care of giant companies. That is only one example of how things have changed. An extra is the kind of outfits women wear. While humility is something the Scripture teaches that has become an open debate these days as to what modesty is. Nowadays women have no difficulty wearing thongs to the beach that cover almost nothing but because they at least have something on they feel modest. The proverbs 31 woman may have seen things differently. So why is it that a proverbs 31 virtuous woman is so valuable anyhow? Notwithstanding from her being uncommon is there something that makes her wanted? Today people have begun to think of attractive as being a bit of a party girl. The proverbs 31 woman however is not a party girl. She has to get up early in the morning to take charge of her house. She would not require a hang over to stop her. There are many reasons a woman like this is so valuable. Of all the women in the earth simply this type of woman will not break the heart of her husband. He may go to work and not fear what dilemma she can be getting into. When he comes home she doesn’t attack him and make him feel bad for anything. Instead she is glad he is home and does well to him. I heard one time somebody declare that a man can sleep with a promiscuous woman but he merely wants to marry a chaste virtuous woman. This could be very factual. No man wants to be afraid that his wife would leave him. With a virtuous woman that fear is gone. This is factual because the Bible says it is so. The high praise for this woman of proverbs 31 is a great way to start describing her. As the rest of the verses unfold you get a more clear picture of why she is so valuable. The first thing we require to note though about how God puts praise on her beforehand He describes her is that her reputation precedes her. Beforehand we meet her we are told how amazing this proverbs 31 woman is.
