Flower Girls: Most Frequently Asked Questions

By: Kaya Collections

We love hearing from you about inquiries ranging from measuring the girls for the right size to choosing the best style and colors. Here is a presentation of some of the more common questions and some helpful ideas in order to make your life a little bit easier when planning for the big occasion Q) My bridesmaids are in a hard to match color, can I add some of that fabric for the %LINK2%? A) Quite frequently, brides prefer to have the bridesmaids and flower girls match exactly with colors and fabrics. There are two options. One is that you can procure some extra material from the company that created your bridesmaid dresses (we can figure out how much based on the number of girls needing dresses) and send it to to your dressmaker. We can then use that cloth to make the sashes on the little girls’ dresses. Another choice send us a sampling of the color and we can custom match it for you in our silk dupioni fabric. Q)The %LINK1% I have selected for my wedding are from a wide range of ages - should they all be in the same style and color dress? A) Its wonderful to have a crowd of flower girls, regardless of what their age, they all look great together and all and sundry will love them. Some points to keep in mind. First and foremost, it’s totally up to you! If you want them all wearing the matching style and color - go for it, plenty of brides like to keep it the same. Or you can choose to change things up somewhat, for example, for girls 4 and under you can purchase an empire waist, girls 5 and up create a natural waist. You can vary the sleeve styles such as adding ruffled cap on the little flower girls. You might also decide to do a big sash on the bigger flower girls and a thinner one on the little flower girls. There are always ways to make flower girl dresses customized so everyone is happy. Q) How do I measure the girls and how do I recognize if they require a “custom” size? A) Use a flexible measuring tape and measure around the chest, waist, and full height. (Make sure they aren't squirming too much!) Let us know what you get and we’ll let you know whats the most appropriate size or if it’s most appropriate to do a custom cut size. Keep in mind that our flower girl dresses do run true to size so determining the best fit is more often than not the simplest part.
