Advanced UV System (AUVS) technology takes air sterilization to a new level. Utilizing a proprietary "reflective" technology, this new high power, energy-efficient UV air sterilization system reduces the disease-causing pathogens in air in all types of buildings. UV systems are particularly valuable in settings where clean air is critical. This advanced technology produces sterile air, thereby protecting people and sensitive processes. Ultraviolet light is a type of radiation that has wavelengths shorter than those of visible light. At the right wavelength, UV light breaks down the DNA of various disease-causing microorganisms, killing the microbes or making them unable to grow and reproduce. So-called germicidal ultraviolet light is an effective way to destroy harmful organisms. Exposure to indoor air pollution can contribute to illness, allergic reactions, and disease. As people spend more and more time indoors, their risk of coming in contact with disease organisms increases. Children, the elderly, and people with lung problems are especially at risk. In fact, indoor air is often more polluted than outdoor air. As heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems circulate air throughout buildings they also circulate mold spores, viruses, and bacteria, exposing occupants to these germs. When installed in HVAC systems, UV air sterilization helps prevent the spread of germs through the building's ventilation ducts. Advanced UV air sterilization systems can be installed in the HVAC system of an entire building, or in selected zones of a building. When UV air treatment is part of a heating and ventilation system, air quality stays high throughout the day. Specific applications of high power UV air sterilization include: * Providing sterile air for medical, pharmaceutical, and food manufacturing - where sterility is critical. In hospitals, sterile air is particularly crucial in surgical suites, oncology units, critical care units, and burn recovery units. * Sterile air for clean rooms and bio-containment systems. * Protecting building occupants against airborne pathogens including bacteria and viruses related to colds, influenza, bird flu, mold, H1N1, and SARS. * Protecting military and government facilities from airborne biological threats. Unlike traditional low power UV purification systems, the new Advanced UV System technology reduces dangerous microbes efficiently, quickly, and with minimal electrical power. And unlike the common HEPA filters, which trap contaminants, UV air sterilization systems actually neutralize and destroy biohazards. As a result, there is no need for costly and dangerous decontamination and disposal of biohazards in HEPA filters. UV systems also remove more contaminants from the air than do HEPA filters. Another advantage of UV sterilization over HEPA filtration is that there is no risk of filter leakage or breakthrough. Ultraviolet light has been used for sterilization for more than 50 years. Early applications included sanitizing surfaces in medical settings and other work areas that required clean room conditions, as well as, sterilizing drinking water and wastewater. It is only recently that ultraviolet light has been used for sterilizing air. Advanced UV System (AUVS) Technology has the potential for revolutionizing the sterilization of circulated air.
