What could be better than enjoying a bowl of home made ice cream topped with nuts, milk chocolate and cherries? Bring the ice cream ingredients and your ice cream machine and you got yourself an ice cream party. Having the kids mix the ingredients and watch the ice cream being made before your eyes is like magic. Enjoying the ice cream is just a little slice of heaven. But, which ice cream maker is the best choice for you? All ice cream machines have two components in common. One is the mixing paddle. This paddle mixes the ingredients thoroughly. Proper mixing is an important part of making ice cream. The other component is a type of a freezing unit or freezing mechanism to freeze the ice cream. With these two components, ice cream can be made. But, aside from the ice cream machine paddle and freezing unit, ice cream machines can differ greatly. There are many different ice cream machines with many different features. Some ice cream machines are small, self contained units. Basically, the user places the ingredients in the mixing chamber and the machine mixes and freezes the ice cream. These machines are very simple to use. Other ice cream machines require a mixture of ice and salt to freeze the ice cream. These units are a more cumbersome to use but they usually make a larger quantity of ice cream. Additionally, the user must supply salt and ice for each use. There are other features to consider as well. Some machines have automatic timers and automatic shutoffs on them. These features permit the user to simply set it and forget it. Other machines have clear chambers that permit the user to watch the ice cream machine as it is being made. Still other features include super large chambers and condiment dispensers. With so many features, which one should you choose? The biggest decision is to choose between ice cream makers that have self-contained freezing units and ice cream machines that freeze the ice cream ingredients with salt and ice. Generally speaking the self-contained ice cream machines are more expensive because they have a small freezing unit in them. Also, these units usually make less ice cream which, may or may be what you want. Additionally, these units are easier to clean than the salt and ice units because they simply need the ice cream ingredient mixture chamber and paddle washed. No other parts need washed. The older style of ice cream machines use salt and ice to freeze the ice cream. These machines cost less because they do not have a self-contained freezing unit in them. They use a salt and ice mixture to freeze the ice cream ingredients. However, these units cost a bit more to use each time as the user must supply salt and ice to the machine for each use. But, the salt and ice machines produce more ice cream more quickly because the salt and ice freezing method is very efficient. But, these units are much messier to use. The user must not only wash the ice cream chamber and ice cream paddle but also the user must take care to thoroughly clean the ice and salt mixture off of the machine. Salt is very corrosive on metal parts and can damage the ice cream machine. So you have several choices to make in choosing an ice cream machine. They are whether or not to but an ice cream machine that freezes with a self contained freezing unit or a machine that uses salt and ice to freeze ice cream. Also, how much money you want to spend is another consideration to make? Additionally, how much ice cream would you prefer to make. Do you want a lot of ice cream or just a bit? And also what clean up is right for you. Reviewing the different types, cost and features of the different ice cream machines will allow you to choose the best ice cream machine for you.
