Getting a volunteer job in Tanzania is a fun way to enjoy visiting Tanzania and add more purpose to your trip. Volunteer jobs can also give you unique job experience that can help improve your career back home or broaden your career options. A volunteer job in Tanzania is also sometimes an affordable way to travel to Tanzania, especially since by working with the locals you get a much more real Tanzania experience than you usually get as just a tourist. One type of volunteer job in Tanzania is being a teacher. The most popular type of teaching job in Tanzania for foreigners is to be an English as a second language teacher. This is something that even those that do not have professional teaching experience can often be trained for and do as a volunteer job. There is also often need for those that can teach other subjects including science, history, and physical education even if you lack formal teaching experience. Another common type of volunteer job in Tanzania is working in the medical field. This can include helping in rural villages and urban areas in clinics and hospitals. Depending on your medical training you can help with different aspects of caring for the locals with basic equipment and medical supplies. This can include assisting in surgeries, taking blood pressure, and administrating vaccines. In general it is necessary to at least be a medical student to get a medical field volunteer job in Tanzania, however sometimes you can get an administrative volunteer job that is in the medical field. Assisting at orphanages is another type of volunteer job in Tanzania. This is an unique way to get experience, although it is not at all the same as how orphanages work in most of the so-called Western world. In Tanzania orphans are sometimes taken in by extended family or neighbors, but still spend time during the day at orphanages to receive care, socialization, and food that the adoptive family cannot provide. This is a good choice for those that enjoy working with kids. The ages you will work with vary, but can include kids as young as infants making this a good way to get experience caring for kids of all ages. Besides taking care of kids working at an orphanage in Tanzania can also include tasks such as cooking, cleaning, farm work, and teaching.
