Keep your Kitchen Cupboards hygienically clean

By: Verne Eliasov

We spend so much time each day in our kitchens; therefore it is vitally important that your kitchen provides you with a 'happy-place' feeling. How many times don’t we end up spending a whole evening around the kitchen table? Whether it be reminiscing about our days with our family, or a game of poker with our friends, the kitchen often ends up 'being the living room'.
Kitchen hygiene is obviously very important. With frequent use, spills and food preparations, kitchens can show wear faster than they need to. So after you've scrubbed the sink and mopped the floor, your kitchen is clean, right? Wrong! Kitchen cupboards form a large part of your kitchen and should always be kept squeaky clean!
There are great products on the market for cleaning your kitchen cupboards, but we all know that that is just a temporary solution. The grease, oil and fingerprints seem to reappear almost immediately. And let's face it; we cannot spend the whole day cleaning our kitchen cupboards (as that would interfere with our family /fun time around the kitchen table!).
Invest in a kitchen cupboard restorer! We all know that certain shampoos and polish prevent dust from settling on our cars, and we even spray products on our bathroom windows to prevent them from steaming up… so why not give our kitchen cupboards the same respect?
Most of these restorers won't cost you and arm and a leg and you will soon find that fingerprints, grease and oil will not take away your kitchen's shine!
When cleaning your kitchen cupboards on the inside, it is important to use a slightly damp, not soaking wet, sponge or cloth to wipe the surfaces. Then use a soft, dry cloth to make sure that there is no water left on the cupboard surfaces. This would end up warping the wood and leave the cupboard with a stuffy odor. If you have wooden kitchen cupboard, it is essential to treat the surfaces on a regular basis.
Personal hygiene goes hand-in-hand with kitchen hygiene. Germs and bacteria hide on most surfaces that are touched, therefore washing your hands often is very important. Wipe up spills immediately after they occur - removing everyday spills and drips will prevent food and drink from staining your kitchen surfaces and is a good first step for a hygienic kitchen. A red wine spill poses no problem when wiped up immediately, but that same spill can leave a permanent stain if left for a couple of days.
Clean your kitchen appliances and cupboards often! Also keep in mind that a lot of food products have expiry dates. Do not leave such products in your kitchen cupboards indefinitely! This is a sure way to attract all kinds of unwanted visitors - do not allow your kitchen cupboard to become a breeding ground for flying and crawling bugs!
By following these simple tips, you’ll be able to spend many happy hours in your kitchen and be happy in the knowledge that your kitchen is a safe and hygienic place for family and friends to visit.
