Every child loves to feel special. One way in which this can be achieved is by creating a special place in your home that they can call their own. As a newborn, it is the parents who decide on the theme, colour scheme and furniture that goes into a nursery but as a baby grows into a little young boy or girl, introducing their ideas to the interior design of their bedroom can enhance the feeling that it is truly theirs, while fostering creativity and independence. While it may not always be cost-effective to buy new furniture for a room, incorporating Children’s Fabric effectively into a room can completely change the overall appearance of the space. There are some factors to consider, however, before purchasing the material. The first is the purchase price. Children grow so quickly, as does their taste and choice of themes. Consequently, you do not wish to pay huge prices for fabric. Cotton, with its many different types, is often the most popular with respect to cost. The second factor that needs to be considered is the function of the fabric. If it is being used for such purposes as bedding, for example, the characteristics required would be very different to one that is needed for curtains and chair coverings. Children tend to be harder on material than parents as they spill food and drink, place dirty hands everywhere, draw over everything and pull themselves up on objects. Normal cotton may be perfect for bedding (especially in summer as it breathes, is cool and being lightweight reduces the risk of suffocation), but for a curtain it will offer very little block out to the sun and is easily deteriorated by it. Here one would use Panama perhaps, a thicker variant of normal cotton. Similarly, some fabrics will be harder to maintain with respect to cleanliness and general wear and tear. Using fabric that can be easily laundered and not restricted to dry cleaning will be preferred, as will those that can withstand a child’s everyday onslaught. What makes a Children’s Fabric specific to their age? It is clearly the print. What female child would not love to go to bed on fairies, butterflies, princesses, ponies or cute animals? On a similar vein, what young boy would not want to close curtains with superman, pirates, cute trucks and cars, sea animals or spider webs? Children’s Fabric can also be used to create unique wall hangings, pillows, blankets, cushions, quilt covers and picture frames. In fact, it can be used in just about any place where something needs to be covered. You are only really limited by how art-and-crafty you are. One must be careful not to overdo it though, as this can reduce the intended effect. Kid’s fabric is an excellent means of adding a personal touch to a little one’s bedroom. With careful forethought concerning cost, usage, cleanliness and durability, there is no reason as to why the delight should only be restricted to the little prince or princess.
