Boiler components may be divided into parts that facilitate the flow of water, parts that facilitate the heating, parts that facilitate the release of gases and regulation of pressure inside the system and parts that are used to preserve a healthy chemical equilibrium in the tank. Water flow parts include the water feed valve, which controls water to the tank, a feedwater check valve, top feed or clack valve, which is a stop valve in the water feed line, a supply pipe, through which water leaves the boiler to circulate in the home, a flow control valve, which regulates flow of hot water to the system, the circulator pump, which facilitates water flow through the system, a low water cut off control that shuts off the boiler if the water level drops, water level indicators, portions of the apparatus, made of glass, which allow an outside viewer to monitor the internal water level, a return pipe, through which water that has circulated through the house returns to the boiler. Parts of the machine that are concerned with heating include, gas values and burners that regulate flow of gas into the combustion chamber, an electric switch that regulates the gas flow electrically, an Aquistat that regulates the boiler water temperature and an automatic blowdown/continuous heat recovery system that allows the boiler to blow down only when makeup water is being added to the system, so that the heat released through the blow down can be transferred to the makeup water. Many of the boiler parts are devoted to maintaining a safe internal boiler pressure. Parts occupied with this function include the pressure reducing valve or pressure and temperature valve, which regulates the internal temperature and pressure of the boiler and pipe apparatus, a continuous flow down valve, which allows a small amount of water to escape continually, the expansion tank, which is a capacitance vessel for the expansion that occurs as the boiler heats up the water, air vents air scoops or air bleeders, which are responsible for removing gas bubbles that form in the heated water and which move the separated air to the expansion tank or to the air vent valve from which it escapes to the atmosphere, the vent chimney, boiler flue vent connector or stack pipe and flue, which are the escape route for excess steam leaving the system and the flush tank which receives high pressure blow down and allows it transfer to a low pressure system or leave through atmospheric vents. Part of the tank which help preserve a healthy chemical equilibrium in the boiler include, filters installed in the feedwater system to remove impurities from the water and bottom blowout valves, found at the bottom of the boiler, which are used to remove solid particulate impurities that sink to the bottom of the boiler.
