Pillow Pets

By: Justin Willis

A kid's item called Pillow Pets are among the best selling kids products for the year 2009 and thus far in 2010. As a matter of fact so many parents decided to buy them as Christmas gifts for their kids last year, they were bought out in many retailers and on the web as well.

So what makes these toys for children so special? At first glance, it looks pretty much like any ordinary cute stuffed toy to parents. However, the unique feature about Pillow Pets is they could pop open into full sized pillows that kids can use to rest or take a nap on. This reason is why the product is known as a Pillow Pet.

This is achieved with Velcro straps. Whenever you unattach the Velcro strap, the Pillow Pet will instantly pop open and turn into a pillow. To return it back to a soft stuffed animal again, you simply reconnect the Velcro strap.

With this twin purpose and an advertisement using a catchy tune, lots of kids have asked their parents for one. I've heard of many parents becoming irritated because their children were singing the Pillow Pets tune that goes, "It's a pillow. It's a pet. It's a Pillow Pet." all of the time.

A mom of two in San Diego was the original inventor of the Pillow Pets. The main reason was that she was tired of her kids leaving their stuffed toys all over their rooms and house. So she was determined she was going to make a stuffed toy which was also a meaningful item. Later on she came up with the concept it will be a pillow.

Consequently, she ended up making a millionaire dollar industry and Pillow Pets are being sold in stores nationally. The first product line only had six different animals but has now expanded to over 30 different Pillow Pets. Furthermore, complementary items such as backpacks, blankets, slippers and books were released due to the initial success.

Pillow Pets is available in two different dimensions. The large sized ones are eighteen inches long while the tiny ones are 11 inches. The big Pillow Pets generally sell for about $20 however the rare ones that tend to be out of stock have selling for much more on auction sites such as eBay.
