LICE ARE. During the 1900s, there were reports of certain outbreaks of louse-borne typhus, louse-borne recurring fever which killed millions of people. Their bodies are much shorter than the head and body lice and with crab-like claws. Other sexually-transmitted diseases correlate the presence of pubic lice because they are usually obtained from sexual intercourse. People infested with lice are restricted from entering barbershops and beauty salons. Body lice can be easily acquired when there is exact touching of two bodies. Also found in other hairy parts of the body. BEHAVIOR OF LICE Studies say that head lice may have been taken from mummies of ancient times. Lice can easily be transferred from one person to another by merely crawling to other person's head when sleeping or simply lying on the bed with heads close to each other. Since these parasites do not fly nor jump, there's no need to worry of acquiring it without close contact. It looks reddish-brown in color after feeding but normally grayish white, while the nits have clear or white color. In general, a few living lice, lesser than a dozen, infest a person. LICE HISTORY Children, 13 years old and below are the much more affected group of individuals. It was more prevailing than chicken pox at that time. But the collection of samples and sizes were inadequate. and a lot of American health bureaus declare that lice have a preference on clean hair because it is easy to lay eggs and stick to the hair. SYMPTOMS AND DIAGNOSIS It cannot really cause bacterial infection. All sensible attempts should be searched in identifying the reasons of these irritations and to classify the responsible living thing on the scalp or body. Do this for five minutes regularly. Once a louse is found out, all the members of the family should be examined using a nit comb but only the ones with lice should be taken care of. Use a special louse comb. TREATMENT Children under 3 years should not be treated with medicated lice shampoo or lotion. Substances that terminate adult and nymphs called "lousicides"; others that kill growing embryo inside the egg are called "ovicides". There's no need to spend so much in treating head lice because they do not live long enough after being removed from the scalp. Use the fingers in hand-picking the lice and nits. Lousing is a more proper term. THESE ARE THE ESSENTIAL WAYS TO REMOVE LICE AND NITS AND TO KEEP THEM FROM COMING BACK: Apply more than enough petroleum jelly on eyelashes and eyebrows two times a day for 8 days but do not use chemical treatments Try applying mayonnaise on the head. Any child with lice should stay at home to keep him/her from spreading the lice. If this menace is not treated or removed properly, the lice will come back and you will have to start all over again. You can also apply tree tea oil. Many schools necessitate their students to be free from nits before coming back. If necessary, it may be thrown away. Do not use lice medication to infants if not prescribed by your physician. PREVENTION Some products cannot totally kill the lice, it only eliminates a few. These lice really are not easy to bring to an end. There are certain places where lice are widespread, adults, not only children are regularly checked up. Treat them as early as possible if they are infested to keep it from spreading.
