SPA Destination Tips - Health SPA Town Marienbad

The town of Marienbad lies in a stunning wide valley in West Bohemia, 628 meters above sea level. An approximately twenty km wide strip of forest with many hiking paths passes right through the spa town.

Marianske Lazne enjoys an first-rate reputation all over the world both for its medical treatment methods and effective natural remedial resources, as well as for its charming, delightful view. In 1766 the names of the first three sources are pointed out in the records for the 1st time: Ambroz, Krizovy and Maria Springs. Inhabitants could not still use the mineral springs in full since of nearby tin mines that needed the wood from the neighborhood forest. Though, all other enterprises in the region were rigorously forbidden.
In 1786 the monastery finally bought share of the forests from the kingdom for 11,000 florins. Dr. Josef Nehr who researched the outcomes of the mineral springs afterward developed here a brick house for his patients. In the nineteenth century the spa was visited by the Austrian Emperor Ferdinand I, King of Prussia Friedrich Wilhelm IV, Monarch Franz Joseph I, the English King Edward VII, pianist Fryderyk Chopin, composers Antonin Dvorak, Johann Strauss, Gustav Mahler, Richard Wagner, writers Johann W. Goethe, Nikolai V. Gogol, Ivan Turgenev S., Friedrich Nietzsche, Mark Twain, Joseph Dobrovsky, research workers, Pavel Josef Safarik, Josef K. Tyl, & famous opera singer Ema Destinova.
In the 20th century the streets of Marianske Lazne (Marienbad) saw the great humanist, thinker and theologian Dr. Albert Schweitzer. Other outstanding individuals who stayed here were the statesmen and Czech presidents Tomas G. Masaryk & Eduard Benes. In the last decade the town also viewed ex-president Vaclav Havel as well as the present Czech head Vaclav Klaus.

Marienbad is proud of its second oldest golf course over Europe, established by King Edward VII in 1905. There are in addition a miniature golf course, tennis courts, swimming pools, saunas, solariums, fitness centers, a riding school, and a yacht club. Guests be able to enjoy fishing, hunting, skiing, hiking, biking & cross-country skiing. Home museum attracts tourists with its exhibitions regarding the city's history; there is also an open space geological park, Frederic Chopin memorial, theatre, cinema, live concert hall, art galleries, discos, and casinos.
