It is one part of each vehicle that gets too much abuse either from the sun coming through the windscreen or hot air from the heater. This could lead to cracking in the surface and depending on how severe the break is you may have to replace the complete dash rather than merely refurbish the cracks. If you have a friend to aid, it will make life much simpler. Before you complete any custom auto interior work on a car, you must always disconnect the battery. You do not want any bad accidents. You will then have to remove all the things you could i.e. the steering wheel, glove box, instrument cluster and any screws you can see. Go slowly and vigilantly when removing the dashboard because it can still be attached by certain screws you failed tosee. Taking care not to smash up anything now will make your task simpler in the long run. A flathead screwdriver will assist you to complete the job. You will have to remove the VIN label (vehicle identification number) from the old dash because it have to be shown on the new one. Fit the new piece into the car by reusing the existing brackets and screws. You may need few new ones if the old ones are out of order. Refit the pieces you removed earlier i.e. the instrument box and steering wheel. Ultimately, re-connect the battery to ensure everything works well i.e. lights, radio etc. If there are just small cracks, you may not have to replace the entire dashboard. You may be capable to repair the existing one using a particular kit. You will need to paint over the entire surface when you have done but to be frank this method only works on quite smaller cracks. Although it look like more work it is someties easier to merely replace the dashboard than to try and repair it when performing custom auto interior work.
