Both Tanzania and Kenia (Kenya) are pretty easy to visit on the same trip. For the most part you can get the same or at least similar African safari experience if you just stick to visiting Tanzania or Kenya. However, it can still be fun to add both countries to your list of countries visited and they do each have some things unique to them. One place you should consider visiting in Tanzania is Lake Manyara. This lake is considered by some including Ernest Hemingway as the most beautiful African lake. It is a good place to see baboons, as well as other wildlife. You can see some typical safari animals such as giraffes and elephants, but if you safari several places in Tanzania and Kenia you should not pick Lake Manyara just to see them. Instead it makes sense as a choice if you want to visit a lake and/or see baboons. Another place worth visiting in the Tanzania part of a Tanzania and Kenia trip is the Ngorongoro crater. This is another place you can typically see a variety of safari animals. One of the unique aspects of it, though is that this is where the Olduvai Gorge is located. This area is considered the Cradel of Mankind and where prehistoric finds have most helped the understanding of human evolution. The Serengeti is the best place to visit for an African safari experience for the Tanzania portion of a Tanzania Kenia trip. It is especially worthwhile if visited during the migration when you can see a lot of wildebeest, as well as predators such as lions, hyenas, and leopards. Both Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and Mount Kenya in Kenia are good tall mountains to visit in Africa. Kilimanjaro is more interesting if you want to try and summit the tallest mountain in Africa. Kenya is the second tallest in Africa. Mount Kenya has more cultural experience opportunities related to learning about the local cultures that live on and around the mountain. In Kenai a good place to go on safari is the Samburu National Park. This is a good place to see many of the typical safari animals. The wildlife present in the park include lions, cheetahs, leopards, impala, giraffes, elephants, hippos, and zebra. There are also many species of birds to see on safari in Samburu National Park, including ostriches, vultures, hornbills, and secretary birds. You can also often spot crocodiles in the Uaso Nyiro River that runs through the park.
