The Most Important Reasons to Buy a Gun Safe

By: Christoper Robertson

The right to bear arms is an integral part of American culture. Unfortunately, this right also means that shootings of adults and other children by kids, toddler injuries, teenage incarceration and general violence are also an integral part of American culture. Most US states recognize that bearing arms is a responsibility as well as a right, and have made it mandatory for guns to be kept in specialized gun safes, or at least fireproof safes, floor safes or wall safes where they can't be accessed by people who aren't supposed to access them! And yet, a substantial proportion of gun owners in the US do not keep their gun in a safe.

There are all sorts of arguments against keeping weapons in a safe. Many people lament the fact that they never think about going out sport shooting if they don't actually see their gun, others worry that it won't be accessible when they really need it to protect their home or family, while significant numbers of people say that's it's just too darned expensive to buy a gun safe. Here are the reasons we most often hear from gun owners, explaining why after many years of going without, they finally bought a safe.

"I heard about one too many child shootings on the news"

I don't know about you, but my heart breaks a tiny bit every time I hear that a child has been shot with the very gun that was probably bought to protect them. Even more tragic and devastating are the stories of children who end up shooting a friend or parent because they didn't realize what would actually, really happen if they pointed a gun at them and fired the trigger. The only way to protect your kids from both the baddies outside, and the guns inside, is to lock them away in a safe and keep the combo somewhere completely undiscoverable.

"A dedicated gun room has too many impracticalities"

Many recreational shooters don't like the idea of a gun safe, but want to keep their family and weapons secure. A lockable, alarmed room is the usual solution... but most gun owners find that there are simply too many variables to oversee in securing this room. A single, simple safe is a much easier solution.

"I Wanted to Store Other Things in My Gun Safe"

Gun safes are specially designed for guns, but nobody's going to come round and haul you out for putting other things in there as well! Every household needs a place to keep important papers, hard drive backups or heirloom jewelry, but not every household needs to get separate fireproof safes, wall safes and gun safes. Pop everything in your gun safe - your weapon has the most potential to create tragedy and heartbreak.

"Delivery Was Discreet"

Many people worry that if people see their gun safe being delivered, they'll loot the house looking for the weapons. All good gun safe suppliers will deliver with extreme discretion.

"I Found Out It Was Legally Required"

In most states, gun owners are legally required to store their guns in a gun safe... and finally discovering this vital piece of information has led many a gun owner to buy their own!
