This writeup is the second in several publications teaching how to turn a mere webcam, which is also known as an IP camera, into a full security system. Add lights, motion detectors, out-of-door enclosing, wireless adapters and other electronic devices to an Internet (IP) camera - and you get a prestigious, yet cost-efficient electric security guard. Web cameras such as these can be ideal for watching over vacation homes and RV's, far-off job sites, remote business hubs, or anything which needs monitoring. Step One was to add a Passive InfraRed (PIR) sensing device to the camera to enable it to send out alerts and to record images or videos of whatever which triggered the sensor. Next is to attach a floodlight to discourage would-be wrongdoing or theft. A web camera is a video camera that feeds its images in real time to a computer or computer network, via various connection devices. Their favorite use is the formation of video links, allowing local or remote PC's to serve as Digital Video Recorder (DVR), or more accurately, Network Video Recorder (NVR) hubs. This common use gives web-based camera its name "webcam". Webcams far and by include a lens, photo detector, and some support devices. Various lenses are available, the most common in mass-produced webcams being a plastic lens which can be screwed inward and outward to determine the camera's default focus. Fixed focus lenses, those that have no space for adjustment, are also acquirable. As a camera's profoundness of sphere is wider for fine image formats and is better for lenses bearing a large f-number (small aperture), the systems used in webcams have sufficiently large astuteness of sphere that the employment of a fixed focus lens does not touch on image sharpness much. Image detectors can be CMOS or CCD, with CMOS being dominant for inexpensive cameras, but CCD cameras don't actually outperform CMOS-supported cameras in the affordable price range. Most consumer-grade webcams are capable of providing VGA-resolution video at a frame rate of 30 frames per second. Many newer gadgets can produce video in big pixel resolutions. If a server isn't available, the cameras can be connected to the Internet straight off, using the best-selling wireless Internet cards, such as 3G and 4G cards from diverse providers. Some more prestigious cameras have embedded processors that add multiple features, such as movement detection transmission, email transmission, scheduled transmitting of still photos and telecasts. There are those which can even include picture and video attachments within email alerts. Virtually all webcams feature built-in microphones. Add a good floodlight to the webcam. This floodlight can be triggered by the PIR sensor. Alternatively, some cameras are already capable of turning on the lights remotely using the remote-viewing software, which make them useful for various supervising purposes. Several cameras have built-in devices to turn on lighting to not only enlighten the region being supervised, but also function as a thievery determent. Most trespassers love the shadows and will generally run away when strong lights are turned on in reply to their movements. One such webcam is offered by Offsite Commander Systems.
