I'm a big breakfast fan and, as I never cook, I eat most breakfasts in restaurants or cafes. Luckily for me, not only do I live in Newcastle, Australia but the city has amazing breakfast choices at prices much cheaper than your average western city. If you also love breakfast, don't miss these amazing breakfast places when you're in Newcastle. With a diverse menu to choose from, as well as lots of other styles of cuisine, you'll soon find you'll have so many choices, it's hard to choose. The Depot on Darby - One of my favorite restaurants to eat breakfast in darby Street Newcastle. An Australian restaurant, with locations all over Newcastle, they serve western-style food at inexpensive prices. Start with a latte, hot chocolate or cup of tea. Then choose a muffin, croissant, cheese danish or yoghurt. If you want something hot, the toasted bagels are delicious with salmon, tuna and cheese or just cream cheese and jelly. The Depot also makes bagel and egg sandwiches, bagels with egg and bacon, and croissant egg and bacon sandwiches. For between $3.60-$4.50, you can get a hot latte and a muffin, or a hot chocolate or tea and a bagel. Most Darby St cafes open at 6:30 am, so you can get an early breakfast on the way to work or to a tourist destination. Their weekend specials are cheap, like the rest of their breakfast menu, they fill the plate, and your stomach. Some top picks include any of their fresh fruit pancakes, Eggs Benedict, or the Vermont Country Breakfast. This restaurant is the place to go for fun with a view. Overlooking Darby St, customers can dine inside or on the deck on bar-style wooden chairs and tables. It's recommended to get there early, because the crowds line up, especially on the weekend. The Depot serves breakfast from 6 a.m.-2 p.m. We've all heard the old adage, "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." Even though the saying is a cliche, it's also true. Skipping breakfast can be detrimental, especially to a teenager's health. Studies have shown that students who eat breakfast have more energy, concentrate better and score higher on standardized tests than students who skip the morning meal. Here are some ways you can encourage your teen to start the day off with a nutritious breakfast. Talk with your teen about why she skips breakfast. Finding out the reasons why she prefers going to school on an empty stomach can open a dialog for discussion about why she needs to eat breakfast. Are you staying in Victoria BC and looking for the best spot to grab some breakfast? Or perhaps you've lived here your whole life and wondered where to go on a Saturday morning. I've decided to give an insider and local look at the top 5 best places to get breakfast in Newcastle. You will probably tell by the frequent lines at the Depot that this is a local hotspot for breakfast on the weekends and for lunches during the week. It's accesible to tourists by walking from anywhere downtown and offers some of the best eggs benedict in town. They offer simple breakfasts with traditional eggs, bacon and toast or more modern breakfasts for those vegetarians or vegans. The Depot has a music playing and is very lively,so if you don't really like a noisy restaurant, this isn't your place. But if you are looking for an affordable breakfast, that is usually quite good, with fast service, then you should hop on down. Don't be fooled if there is a line. The trick is to right inside and put your name on the list. For 2 people, it shouldn't take more than 5-10 mins tops to get a table. They are used to big crowds and have mastered the quick turnaround for breakfast. The staff are very outgoing and great for tourists. Surely, there will be lots of debate about where to eat breakfast in Newcastle, but one place you must try is located in beautiful Cooks Hilll on Darby St. The Depot will most likely have a line out the door while you wait to order your food in an assembly line style, but it is worth the wait, even for the experience of it all. Whether you're looking for banana pancakes or a tomato & basil omelette, you won't be disappointed. After breakfast, you have Newcastle at your feet where you are fueled up for a walk through the town and down towards Kings Street. The Depot, located on Darby Street in Newcastle always has a line out the door so put in your name and enjoy an early morning shopping in the Mall, or down town. After about an hour of waiting, you'll find yourself engorged with reasonably priced dinner-style delights. Fluffy pancakes, crisp bacon, and their famous Banana Stuffed French Toast. If you want good food with minimal flair for your family, the Depot is the place to be. Afterwards hit up Civic Theater for aa show, or take a walk to the forshore to burn off those Pancake calories. Enjoy!
