Why tattoos are considered cool?

Tattooing the body is not just some recent fad that has come about. Tattoos have actually been around since ancient times and people have been using their body as a canvas, and painting it to express themselves, or as a fashion statement with them.

Tattoos in earlier eras were not as popular as they are today, and were usually associated with unpalatable people who considered themselves different from society. Before examining why tattoos are so popular, let us look at what a tattoo actually is.

A tattoo is a needle puncturing the skin using ink, and leaving an impression. The needle pokes deeply into the skin and the ink remains leaving the design or image. Tattooing tools have greatly evolved over time. Modern day needles can puncture up to 30,000 times a minute, whereas in ancient times, people would use a sharp bone to puncture the skin.

Earlier tattoos were associated with gypsies, hippies, inmates, sailors (remember Popeye?) and rebels. However, with the growing influence of media and popularization of tattoos, every one wants to get a tattoo done these days. Celebrity endorsement has also given the art a new lease of life. These days every one from teenagers to grand parents like sporting tattoos. Tattoos are more like symbols which tell an onlooker about a person's ideal, principles likes and dislikes in life.

Before tattoos became a fad, they were associated with people such as gypsies, hippies, inmates, and sailors. However, with time, and them appearing more and more in the media, people began to favor tattooing their bodies. Celebrities adorning their bodies with tattoos have also influenced this fad quite a bit, and nowadays, you see people young and old getting tattoos. People consider their tattoos to be a personal statement, and have become a fashion norm in many parts of the world.

Tattoos have been around since the beginning of the human race. They were used to depict the faith, caste, ideals and other individual characteristics. They can be a way to express your self or your creativity or even a way to rebel about something without making a fuss. Many people use tattoos to mark important events in their life as well. Tattoos are as unique as the people who sport them because they display the fearless and bold nature of the person. Moreover, most people are in awe of people who have the courage to get bold tattoos done! Indeed, tattoos are a great way to communicate your mind set to the other person without saying a word. No wonder they are considered so cool!
